With the war raging in Ukraine, a lot of businesses are looking to support those overseas. At the same time, we can look to support each other locally and uplift our community.
At SBS Accounting & Advisors, we believe our higher purpose is to give back, and our mission is to glorify God and impact lives. While we strive to do that for you and your businesses through top-notch accounting and advisory services, we also aim to support those in need.
Last year, we set out to do this by partnering with HopeWorks, a wonderful organization and ministry that enriches the lives of low-income seniors, providing counseling, compassion and care to impact senior lives both physically and spiritually.
The decision to partner with HopeWorks was simple: They share our mission of glorifying God and impacting lives. One of our goals was to donate 5% of our company’s net profits in 2021 to HopeWorks, and I’m humbled to say we were able to do so! Our team also calls seniors on a regular basis offering words of encouragement, and even volunteers in the “adopt a senior” program.
How you give back (We hope you will!) is entirely up to you. Below are some simple, yet powerful ways to give back that I think can help get you started or motivated. I hope you’ll take this initiative and run with it. Donate to Your Church
As many of you know, church is a very big part of my life. As a follower of Christ, I’m so thankful for His sacrifice on the cross for my sins and grateful that He helps give me strength and wisdom every day. It’s why I care so deeply about serving churches, helping them navigate any challenges and understand the ins and outs of their financial requirements.
In that light, donating to your church can be a wonderful way to give back. This can be monetary, or it can simply be donating your time and volunteering for a great cause. When you can play a part in helping your church help its community and people’s lives, it’s so powerful and important.
Giving to Charity
Another way to give back is to give to charity. It’s important to find a charity that is honest with the money you give, using it in the right way. Of course, you can also volunteer your time for a charity.
Giving to charity has the tremendous and obvious benefit of helping people in need, but it does so much more. It sets an example for your children, laying out key values. Your family can see you as a role model and your actions help show that. It also builds personal values and, quite frankly, just feels good to help others and see their happiness.
Volunteer for Events
As mentioned before, volunteering can be a great way to give back. Perhaps, consider certain events that are built for giving back, and volunteer your time in them.
Maybe it’s an event in one of the charities you support, something your church puts on, making/delivering meals to those that need it or something seasonal like a Christmas gift program.
Whatever you choose, be intentional and be present. You are being seen and heard by the very people you’re helping and impacting.
Canned Food Drives
There are far too many people hungry and in need of nourishment. In fact, more than 3 million children die from undernutrition each year, according to UNICEF. That is a very sad and startling fact.
Canned food drives are a key solution for this. They don’t take a lot of time or effort on your part, but they can have a big impact on the lives of others, especially kids. And if you are passionate about it and want to organize your own canned food drive, that’s even better!
