I hope that everyone had a Happy 4th – and took some much-needed time to be with your loved ones, recharge the batteries, and come back to your businesses reinvigorated and revitalized.

In the spirit of the holiday, I feel it’s important to celebrate those people that matter the most to us and show them how much we care. Sometimes, a random act of kindness or appreciation can make a world of difference to someone else, and potentially inspire them in their own lives or businesses.

Our team at SBS Accounting & Advisors strives every day to help you lead happy, healthy lives and grow your businesses. With this in mind, here are the people I feel both of us can celebrate to ensure everyone is happier, healthier and more successful.

Celebrate your customers. It’s a must to make your customers feel special and appreciated. After all, they are the lifeblood of your business. SBS couldn’t exist or grow without your support and trust – something our SBS team is so grateful for.

How exactly do you go about celebrating your customers? A gift might come to mind, and while that is great, there are many other authentic ways to connect with your customers and leave a lasting impression. To get some strategies for doing so, check out one of our recent blogs here.

Celebrate your team. Recently, Nate McMillan led a young Atlanta Hawks team all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. His coaching was no doubt integral to their success, but they couldn’t have gone anywhere with the team’s execution and desire to be great.

This is exactly what we must do in our businesses. As a business owner, you can coach, mentor and train your team, but they ultimately must perform and have the best interests of everyone involved to represent your organization in the best way possible.

Along the way, it’s key to show them how much you care and celebrate their achievements and performances. When you get the chance, reward them. A raise or extra time off might come to mind – two invaluable strategies. At the same time, a one-on-one visit thanking them for all they do will leave a lasting impression you may not have foreseen. Another option is to host a company get-away to truly get to know each other and work on team building. Whatever you decide, you’d be surprised what a simple gesture of kindness can do for your team – perhaps inspiring them to do the same for your customers.

At SBS, I use a tool called Cooleaf to show our team how much they mean to me. To learn more, check out my thoughts on Cooleaf in this video.

Celebrate you. When you’re running a business and supporting a family, it’s easy to neglect ourselves. Taking time to work on your mental health and make sure you are happy is so important. Whether it’s taking time to pray, meditation, exercise or just clearing your head with breaks built into your day, find time to work on you and your health and happiness.

Celebrate your family. As business owners, we are often running in so many directions and having to make so many decisions that we forget to carve out time to spend with those we love. Whether it’s delegating to your team, improving your workflow, or simply cutting back a bit, find ways to spend more time with your loved ones and perhaps take that much-needed vacation.

Celebrate your business. Taking the risk to start your own business and navigate all of its challenges was no small feat. Take some time to celebrate how far you’ve come, what you’ve overcome and the triumphs. You can also acknowledge the mistakes. Of course, you will make some – we are all human. But it’s how we handle those mistakes that define how our businesses move forward. Try to turn those mistakes or tough moments into inspiration to do better and grow.
