If you could find a solution that saves time and makes you more profitable, wouldn’t that be worth pursuing?

That’s exactly what happens when you take your business paperless. Yet, many business owners and staff I talk to haven’t gotten rid of the file cabinets, or the pile of paper on their desks, because they are afraid they will lose something that can’t be replicated. While I understand the hesitancy, I believe this fear impedes the growth of their business. In fact, the outcome is the exact opposite. Here’s how:

#1: Cost Savings. Add up how much money you spent in 2016 on paper, toner, storage and shredding, and I bet it far exceeds the cost of going paperless. In fact, the only piece of equipment you’ll really need is a scanner. There are many models on the market, so the key is to find one that suits your needs. Here’s an article from PCMag.com that compares some of the more popular models.

#2: Identify Theft Protection. Security should be top of mind for any business, regardless what size company you’re in or the type of industry. If you stop to think about it, going paperless lessens your risk of ID theft because it’s much harder for someone to hack through an encrypted computer or file than it is for a thief to break into an office and sift through your paper files.

Of course, always back up your files in case of a man-made or natural disaster. If you’re going the way of the paperless office, I recommend redundant cloud-based storage – do a Google search to find the right vendor for you.

#3: Saving the Environment. There’s no doubt you’re doing your part to protect our earth’s resources with recycling and other activities, but going paperless does even more to save our landfills. God gave us but one planet to live on – and we need to help each other thrive and survive for as long as possible.

#4: Anywhere, anytime access. The ability to work anywhere, anytime is so valuable in business today with business owners, and their clients, constantly on the go. Going paperless enables this access, allowing you to get your clients the information and data they want, whenever they need it. By having their data in the cloud, your clients now have all their files at their fingertips, rather than being in an office.
